Dinnick Wharf is based on a small ex-public goods depot in Cornwall. Both the track plan and landscape are based on a real location where many wagon types can be seen despite being in the heart of the China Clay District. Like many freight branches, Dinnick Wharf has no 'run around' facility and trains have to be propelled in to unload. The track is becoming overgrown, the warehouse is very quiet and the next train might be the last.

Work on this layout recommenced, following a long period out of use and in storage after the club's move out of Norvic House in late 2012. An extension has been added to the original part of the layout, which also requires cosmetic restoration. The layout's dimensions, including operators' space, will subsequently change. Plans for the extension include a run-round loop, clay-drying structure, a coal drop and an incline behind which will be a hidden siding. It is very much a work in progress.
